INSTRUCTOR PROGRAMS
DEMILE DEFENSIVE TACTICS
A modern self defense program for the non-martial artist..... professionals, military, law enforcement and executives. SHORT TERM, YET VERY EFFECTIVE
"DeMile Defensive Tactics Program"
The DeMile Defensive Tactics Program (DDTP) is a refinement of WCD and the Law Enforcement program that Jim DeMile has taught around the world since 1971. The original DeMile Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics Program was designed for the unique demands of the police, military, executives and government organizations that have to deal with violent physical situations. Mr. DeMile’s background includes being brought up in an orphanage for 12 years where the code was "survival of the fittest". Undefeated heavyweight boxer in the Air Force for two years. Hand to hand combat instructor for the 1st Special Forces Group (Green Beret's) at Fort Lewis in 1985, 1986. "Master Level" instructor for "Special Forces Combatives", a military/civilian close quarter combat training program. Has taught gun retention, knife/club defense seminars to the FBI, Secret Service as well as at many Police Academies across the country. The latest police academy was the Nassau, NY academy in Jun, 04. He recently taught the flight crews of Virgin Blue airlines in Australia and in New Zealand, taught non-abusive prisoner control at the South Island correctional institutions. He travels regularly throughout Europe to teach police and public attended seminars on basic self defense. He just returned Oct 1, 04, from a month teaching in Italy and Germany. He is still an active Deputy Sheriff (since 1993) with the state of Ohio, where he has taught SWAT teams and at the Ohio Police Chiefs convention. DeMile was also an original student of the legendary Bruce Lee and has Wing Chun Do gung fu schools around the world that teach Bruce Lee's unique defensive skills to the general public. DeMile, who has written four books and four training videos on self defense including Bruce Lee's explosive (1 and 3 inch power Punch), is recognized as a leading authority on Modern Self Defense and was recently inducted into the prestigious "World Martial Arts Hall of Fame". DeMile is listed in Who's Who in the Martial Arts, the Genealogy of the Ving Tsun Family, the Original Martial Arts Encyclopedia, Bruce Lee's Fighting Spirit, has appeared in two movies "Weapons of death & Curse of the Dragon" and twice on the national TV program Entertainment Tonight. He has been featured on the covers of numerous national and international martial arts magazines as well as having written articles on defensive tactics for the non-fighter.
The DDTP is a modern approach to self defense. Its scientific and practical methods of teaching allow for rapid development in learning for each student, regardless of gender, age or physical condition. DeMile is the originator of many unique electronic training devices and the use of specialized spring loaded dummies. These training aids allowed for creating immediate feedback on the students skills. The rules of simplicity, efficiency and practicality are the basis for each technique; refining the techniques to fit the particular need of any profession will insure a useful skill for each participant.
The DDTP focuses on attribute training as well as defensive skills. Simple bio-mechanical teaching methods produce rapid increases in speed, reactions and explosive power. With a minimum of training, a 60 year old student can equal a 20 year old, in speed of motion and reactions. Also, mental stress and physical rigidity reduce the student’s ability to perform adequately, therefore, emphasis is placed on applied techniques to dissolve daily stress and promote personal confidence.
INSTRUCTORS TRAINING
There are two types of "Instructors In Training" (IIT), Domestic and Extension. Domestic IIT is any IIT that can attend regular training classes in an authorized DDT training center, which at this time is only in Rogue River, Oregon. Extended IIT is any IIT student who cannot attend regular classes and must train through seminars, correspondence, such as video and/or printed material. Both types of instructor will adhere to the general IIT Policies unless otherwise noted. The DDT program is designed to be taught in a number of different ways. Because many of the students are over 40 or are professionals who cannot commit to longer periods of training the program has been structured so it can be refined and taught in shorter segments. Another way is the standard program and is offered to the student over a two year period. This time period allows for more indepth training. The first phase is the basic program and will give the student a strong foundation in applied self defense. It offers the fundamentals in speed, power, trapping, closing and quick elimination of any potential threat. If the student only attends one year he will have acquired definite street defense skills. Phase two offers a broader application of self defense with a refinement of skills learned in Level One.
The IIT program splits phase one into two parts. This helps minimize an overload of information. Once a IIT qualifies in the first level of phase one, he is allowed to teach level one as a trainer, while continuing to train in phase two. We believe that teaching is the best way to learn and it also gives the IIT a early start in forming his own school.
The extension IIT must attend a one week immersion seminar in Oregon or at a designated location and then will be given video's and printed info on the material learned. The seminar will cover all the info in Phase one, but the video and printed material will only cover Level one of Phase one. Within 6 months of completion of the initial DDT instructors program there will be a three day refresher course at the same location.

INSTRUCTORS IN TRAINING (IIT) REQUIREMENTS
These requirements are based on the assumption that the “instructor in training” hopes to open his/her own school and would like to develop the qualities that would insure their school being a success. This uniformity will insure the future quality of the system throughout the world.

Potential Income Projection
Teaching martial arts is a profession. Most instructors treat teaching as a hobby and therefore can never earn a living. I have taught for over 40 years. My wife and I have lived a very good life, raised a family and now live in Hawaii, all because of my profession... teaching martial arts. A person can spend over a hundred thousand dollars going to college and come out and still have a hard time finding a job. Even professional degrees are no quarentee for a decent job. A good martial arts program is unique insomuch you can take your skill to any community or country and instantly have a job. Of course the program must be different than the standard programs, but with the DDT program we feel confident in a communities instant acceptance. It always gets down to the individual. No matter how good the program, if he does not do his business homework and treat it as a profession, then he will be like so many dreamers out there, who failed. But, being diligent in preparing to open your school, you can easily be in the black within a few months. It is always wise to prepare a projection for the community you hope to start a club in.
Of course, any projection will vary according to a number of variables in a community.
The potential cost and income will depend on the country or state, city or town as far as its local population and economic levels and stability. Cost factors such as rent vary greatly dependent on what type of building, what part of town it’s located, density of children and adults and passer-by visibility. The instructor’s teaching ability and business management skills will effect the long term income potential.
Since it is a service orientated profession most cost factors are constant. Other than initial start-up costs, initial rent, first and last, basic equipment ( bags, gloves, arm guards), insurance, office equipment and advertising, the monthly cost will be the same.
Initial start-up costs can be reduced by starting out by renting a church hall, a local recreational center or any facility that will rent on a part time basis. You can establish a required number of students before renting a permanent location.
Income is the bottom line for any successful business. That and having reasonable overhead. I am going to use the USA Pacific Northwest as the region to develop a club. I will project an acceptable amount of students possible in any town with a population of 10,000 or more. Here at the DDT training center we charge $75 for adults and $60 for Juniors, so will use that as a basis for monthly dues. With proper promotion and a decent location it is reasonable to assume recruiting 30 the first month another thirty every three months. If you wanted to teach less than 30 hours a week, then you would want no more than 150 students. If, in the first or second month you have 30 students at $75 a month that adds up to $2250. If by the forth or fifth month you have 60 students, that is now $4500 a month. If within a year you have 100 students, that is now $7500 a month. Once you reach you goal of 150 students you will be making $11,250. If 50 of the students were children, then it would be $7500 for adults and $3000 for kids.
This base income does not account for testing fees and equipment sales as well as seminars for self defense, which all together can easily reach an extra $2000 a month.
This financial breakdown is based on renting in a clean but lower rental area.
Club, 1500 sq. ft. . $1200
Utilities & Misc.. $ 250
Monthly Insurance .. $ 50
Monthly advertising .. $ 250
------ Total $1750
With 25 students you will break even. You can achieve a profit within two months and an excellent income within six months. This projection is supported by Educational Funding Corporation, a professional billing agency that tracks, across the country, the income and student population of over 700 martial arts clubs. Here in the Pacific Northwest, two clubs (Millers Martial Arts and Bainbridge Family training Center) have instructors who both trained at the WCD school. These schools had been open a little over a year and had over a hundred students. Cliff Lenderman’s training center in Tacoma has a monthly income of over $25,000 and been open 5 years. Doug Tritton in Brisbane, Australia has over 600 students. Doug has been in WCD for over 8 years.
